Help on TOPIC Assists DESCRIPTION: The TOPIC Assists help you define your queries and topic trees so that you can locate the words and topics which best meet your retrieval needs. To scroll this window to see more text, use the scrollbar. To close this window, follow the same procedure used to close a window in your graphical user interface. TOPIC ASSIST TYPES: The TOPIC Assists available to you during your TOPIC session are as follows: Topics Assist: Displays a list of all available topics, and locates topics in the list Find Topics Assist: Locates one or more specific topics from the list of available topics Words Assist: Locates a specific word from a list of words which exist in your documents Stems Assist: Locates a word and its ending variations from a list of words which exist in your documents Thesaurus Assist: Locates synonyms of a specified word from a list of synonyms defined by the Random House Thesaurus Suggest Assist: Locates statistically-related words for a specified word. TOPIC calculates statistically-related words based on word occurrences in your document database. This facility is available only when it has been set up by your TOPIC database administrator. Wildcard Assist: Locates words which match a specified character string Choice Assist: Locates field values for a specified field name that exists in your document database. This facility is available only when it has been set up by your TOPIC database administrator. TO USE THE ASSISTS: Select the desired assist type within the Assists window. Enter the characters which represent the topic, word, stem, synonym, or character string you wish to locate in the Search Area edit box appearing under the assist type label. The list displayed in the Assists window scrolls to show the closest match to the characters you entered in the Search Area edit box. These matches can then be copied into your query window by first selecting them, and then using the "Add to Query" option in the Edit menu.
