Microsoft takes security issues very seriously and responded rapidly by working with the account that found the issue, as well as their security directorate, to develop and test a permanent fix. This information and the accompanying fixes were posted as a Windows 95 Market Bulletin (http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/info/passwordmb.htm ) on Thursday, May 29. MICROSOFT POSTS SERVICE PACK 3 FOR WINDOWS NT 4.0 TO THE WEB Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0 was posted to the web for free download. SP3 went to beta in early March. Features of SP3 include: NetMeeting hooks, DirectX 3.0, ODBC 3.0, IIS 3.0 components, Crypto API 3.0, bug fixes and many more. SP3 can be downloaded at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/usa/nt40/ussp3/. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TIP OF THE DAY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES If you have a Windows 95 installation CD, you can create an Emergency Recovery disk to help you recover important files in the event of a disaster. Once created, this disk includes system and configuration files, plus the Emergency Recovery Utility, the program that restores these files to your system. Navigate your way to the OTHER\ MISC\ERU folder on the CD and double-click ERU.EXE. Then just follow along as Windows 95 walks you through the disk-creation process. (You can save the recovery files on a disk or a drive, such as on a network.) When the setup program finishes copying the files, you'll see a box of instructions for using the disk in the event of a disaster. This tip originally appeared on the TipWorld web site.
