Web Security: A Matter of Trust refocuses the depate over securing electronic commerce from conventional cryptography to Trust Management, a new approach to automated security decision making. Trust management has emerged as a new philosophy for protecting open, decentralized systems in contrast to traditional tools for securing close systems. In real world Web pplications, such as managing client information in the health care industry or in the goverment, this means examining some though questions - who is authorized to access this data? why? and on whose authority? The article „Weaving a Web of Trust“ (Rohit Khare, Adam Rifkin) describes how assertion of trust can be specified, justified, and validated, and introduces the Trust anagement philosophy from a Web-centric point of view.
